Focus your creative energy in Herron’s studios, explore new techniques, and meet other teens who are as passionate about art and design as you are! Herron’s Summer Teen Intensives offer immersive half-day and full day courses in world class studios and are taught by Herron faculty and graduate students. 

 

Summer Teen Intensives

Pride Studio! : June 10-14, 2018

Celebrate and create with Pride Studio! An intensive course designed to celebrate the long and intertwined history of the LGBTQ+ and arts communities. Students in this course will work in a variety of studio disciplines, be introduced to concepts of contemporary art, and the power of voice, all while learning about past and present LGBTQ+ artists! This course is open to all youth identifying as LGBTQ+, or allied. This course will be offered, in conjunction with an exhibition, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, an event widely considered to be the starting point of the modern LGBT rights movement.

Screenprinting : June 10-14, 2018

Pull. Flood. Print! Learn all about the versatile screen printing process in this morning intensive! Students will learn about creating stencils, printing on paper, and mixing ink! Students will also have the opportunity to print their own shirt! Students wishing to continue their studies further may also choose to enroll in the afternoon, Drawing on Design course. Students enrolled in Screenprinting and Drawing on Design will receive a discount on the combined tuition.

Drawing on Design : June 10-14, 2018

Perfect for the future graphic designer, this intensive course will look at the blurred lines between art and design. Projects in this course will apply design aesthetics, thinking, and skills to the production of studio art. Students will work in drawing, painting, photography, and digital media. Students wishing to continue their studies further may also choose to enroll in the morning, Screenprinting course. Students enrolled in Screenprinting and Drawing on Design will receive a discount on the combined tuition.

Illustration Studio : June 17-21, 2018

Dive into Illustration in this morning intensive! Aspiring illustrators will learn about concept development, traditional drawing and painting skills, and will have the opportunity to work digitally! Students wishing to continue their studies further may also choose to enroll in the afternoon, Painting Intensive course. Students enrolled in Illustration Studio and Painting Intensive will receive a discount on the combined tuition.

Painting Intensive : June 17-21, 2018

Experience oil and color in this afternoon intensive! Budding artists will learn all about painting, from start to finish! Students will not only learn painting techniques, also gaining practice in color and composition! Students wishing to continue their studies further may also choose to enroll in the morning, Illustration Studio course. Students enrolled in Illustration Studio and Painting Intensive will receive a discount on the combined tuition.

Art + 3D : June 24-28, 2018

Go past two-dimensions in this week-long intensive! Perfect for the young artist who likes working with their hands, this course will explore the three dimensional side of art. Students will work in clay, foam, plaster, and more! This course may be taken as a half-day or full-day session.

Pre-College Prep : June 24-28, 2018

Pre-College Prep is a week long intensive for high school freshman and sophomores. In this intensive you’ll explore a variety of studio mediums and learn to talk about and understand contemporary art, all in a college environment. You’ll participate in a simulated college schedule and be taught by Herron faculty. Pre-College Prep can be used to prepare for applying to the Herron Pre-College program or to gain a deeper understanding of studio art.

Tuition and scholarships

Siblings and IUPUI employees receive a $20 tuition discount. Extended care hours are available for an additional $60 per week.

Financial assistance is available for families who qualify. A scholarship application that includes short statements from the camper, parent, and an art teacher are required. Qualifying considerations include eligibility for free or reduced lunch and books, or family hardship due to unusual circumstances.
