MADD Days at Westminster 2017

Camp Description
MADD Days at Westminster is a Christian music, art, dance, and drama day camp for children and youth entering grades 3-8 from the Miami Valley and beyond.

LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE! is the theme for the 2017 camp. All campers will have the opportunity to discover how they can make a difference in the world around them by singing in choir, exploring Bible stories, creating beautiful art, dancing and movement, drama, playing string instruments, Orff instruments or handbells, and daily recreation options that take advantage of our downtown Dayton location.

Cost is $80 per camper, which includes lunch, breakfast and afternoon snacks, and a camp T-Shirt.

Our daily schedule can be found at www.westminsterdayton.org. Each day features morning devotions, choir, classes in Christian Education, music, art, dance, and drama, lunch, half hour rest period, afternoon snack, and a field trip. Classes are led by highly qualified leaders. A complete list of camp leadership can be found at the website listed above. All campers will learn original music written specifically for our camp. Music is being created by retired Centerville educators Kathy Clark, Beth Hill, and Dan Hill to explore our theme LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE! On Friday evening, August 4, campers will present the music they have learned throughout the week. The evening will begin with a celebration dinner for campers and their families.

A nurse is on duty at all times. The nurse can assist any campers who may need to take medication during the day, and is available for any first aid needs. Refrigeration is available for any campers who may need to bring special food.

Each afternoon, campers will take a field trip to a downtown Dayton location. Last year’s destinations included: the K-12 Art Gallery, the Dayton Art Institute, Island Park and The Victoria Theater. All of these activities are included at no additional charge.

Lunch is provided each day. One day will feature a picnic lunch at an area park. Lunches are prepared under the direction of Chef John Gummel.

On Friday evening, a dinner will be provided for all campers and their families. Donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of this dinner. Following dinner, the campers will present a celebration concert of the music they have learned throughout the week. The celebration will also include drama, dance, Orff instruments, handbells, and a display of camper art work. The celebration will end no later than 7:00.

Campers and their families are invited to worship at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Sunday, August 6. Campers will rehearse at 9:15 a.m. and worship will follow at 10:00 a.m. During worship, campers will sing the music they have prepared during camp week. We have learned that the Westminster congregation enjoys the music presented by the campers, and that the campers enjoy seeing their friends and counselors on more time.
