Robot Academy

Turn your child’s love of LEGO into a passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Instructors inspire students to become engineers, programmers, inventors and entrepreneurs. Robot Academy is Columbus’ original LEGO Robotics and STEM camp. Our founders won the First Lego League World Championship two years in a row (first place in robotics out of 10,000 teams) and have also won numerous national invention and science competitions. Robot Academy opened over 15 years ago and has taught thousands of young students. Many of our camp graduates have gone on to win their own international championships. It’s the ultimate STEM experience.

Lego BattleBot Building/Programming Camp (PM Camp)

This camp features our famous BattleBot championship, where student-made robots “battle to the death”. With the help of world champion robotics instructors, students will learn to program BattleBots in the Scratch programming language using sensors and logic. Beginners (and younger students) will master basic programming, while experienced programmers (and older students) will learn more advanced techniques for ensuring the success of their BattleBots. We run the BattleBot rounds until all campers have a chance to win. Students also complete robot challenges to earn points to win tall trophies to reward their achievements. Award ceremonies are a fun celebration of our students’ talents. Instructors provide individual help to make sure all students win trophies and are happy campers.

This camp focuses on building and programming robots. The first two days focus on our famous Arduino LEGO Robot BattleBot championship, where student-made robots “battle to the death”. The final three days, Wednesday to Friday, we utilize a our LEGO Robot (available for purchase so that your child can keep the robot after camp). It is a coding robotic kit that is designed for ages 6 to 18 with age-appropriate robotics challenges at each age level. Our camps are grouped by age: Jr (5 to 8) and Sr (9 to 14). Parents can decide which group based on your child’s age and skill level. Students sit with their age within a couple of years.

With just one screwdriver, the step-by-step instruction, and Robot Guy videos, children can build a robot with scratch programming, and build logical thinking and design skills. With a one-stop programming platform designed for STEAM education for all ages and levels, students can switch between Scratch and Python or Arduino C. The robot can be purchased with an additional $125 so that the student can build their own robot with us and then take it home at the end of the camp. Purchase of robot is optional. The robot is portable and lightweight, but has huge possibilities with four expansion ports, over 100 kinds of electronic modules and a Robot Academy’s LEGO Add-on to attach epic LEGOs to solve robotics challenges!
